A 60-year-old Atlanta man was critically injured after being hit by a vehicle in DeKalb County on Monday afternoon, authorities said.
William Bedor was hit by a Dodge Charger while crossing the northbound lanes of Clairmont Road between Briarcliff Road and the I-85 North entry ramp, according to a DeKalb police incident report obtained by AJC.com. He was not walking in a crosswalk, police said.
The driver and a witness stayed at the scene until officers arrived about 5:25 p.m., the report said. The driver told police that Bedor “came out of nowhere” and walked in front of his vehicle. Bedor was then hit by the right side of the Charger’s hood.
The witness said Bedor was standing in the middle of the roadway, waving another vehicle to pass before he began to walk across, the report said. She then told officers she heard a “loud noise,” which is when she saw him lying in the road.
Bedor was breathing when officers arrived, but he was not responsive. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition, police said.
The driver is not expected to be charged.
