A Peachtree City man was arrested Wednesday after authorities said he tried to strangle his girlfriend while she slept.

Jared R. Bowman, 31, was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the incident, which occurred at a relative’s home on Southern Shore Drive, according to The Citizen in Fayette County.

Peachtree City police officers who responded to the scene about 6:30 p.m. said Bowman attacked his girlfriend after becoming intoxicated. She was able to break free and call 911, police spokesman Chris Hyatt told the newspaper.

Details about her injuries were not released.

Bowman is being held in the Fayette County Jail, according to online records.
