A Fulton County middle school student was charged after taking a BB gun to school, the district confirmed.
The student had the gun, which was not loaded, at Autrey Mill Middle School in Johns Creek on Monday, according to a Fulton County School System statement sent to Channel 2 Action News. No students were injured during the incident.

“Parents need to know their kids are safe in our schools,” Superintendent Mike Looney said in the statement. “We all know kids make mistakes, but when something like this happens we will take the strongest stance necessary so they understand there are real consequences and this is not (a) game.”

In a letter sent to parents, the district said the student was charged with having a weapon on school property and will be disciplined according to the district’s code of student conduct, Channel 2 reported. AJC.com does not identify minors unless they are being charged as an adult.
“Please talk to your child about this situation and remind them that ANY type of weapon is not allowed on school property,” the letter continued. “Please check their bookbags before they go to school to ensure they do not have any prohibited items.”
