A Newnan man is accused of repeatedly raping, hitting and choking a woman in his apartment over the weekend, leading to his arrest.

Jamara Donta Isaac, 38, was arrested Sunday on rape, false imprisonment and aggravated assault charges, Newnan police Deputy Chief Mark Cooper confirmed to AJC.com. The alleged attack took place overnight Saturday at the Newnan Estates apartment complex, where he lived.

About 3 a.m., Isaac assaulted the woman, leading her to barricade herself inside his bathroom for protection, police said. The victim told police that Isaac also attempted to strangle her during the incident.

The woman was later released from his home and went to a hospital, police said. When she was released the next day, she called authorities.

Isaac remains in the Coweta County jail without bond.
