Gainesville has six Waffle Houses within its city limits, and the Pentee Drive location is one of two that has remained opened for takeout. The other one is the Dawsonville Highway location.

Hundreds of Waffle Houses have shut down due to dwindling demand during the coronavirus pandemic. More than 400 locations have closed, which is the most in the restaurant chain's history.
