New gang charges for 3 accused in killing, aggravated assault of teens

Multiple people charged in connection with the killing of one teenager and the aggravated assault of another are now also accused of gang activity, GBI officials said.

The new gang-related charges were brought against Kentavious Broudmain Walker, 22, Demetrius Sanchez Smith, 30, and Samantha Breanna George, 18, after new evidence was presented to a Stephens County grand jury Tuesday, the GBI announced in a news release Monday.

Walker, Smith and Ty’Jai Trammel, 24, were originally charged with murder in the death of 18-year-old Joel Keshon Green. Green was found shot to death on South Alexander Street in Toccoa on Aug. 8, 2018, officials said.

Walker and George were also charged in the aggravated assault of Spencer Reason. Reason, 18, was shot in July 2018.

The victims and the suspects are from Toccoa.

Investigators determined that both the murder and the assault were associated with criminal street gang activity and new warrants were issued for Walker, Smith and George, GBI officials said.

Walker and Smith are both charged with malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of firearm during the commission of a felony. Walker also faces 24 counts of violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act, while Smith faces 22 counts.

George is charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and three counts of violation of the street gang terrorism and prevention act.

Walker and Smith are still in custody, according to the GBI. George was arrested Wednesday.
