Aug 24, 2019

A Winder man was killed Sunday evening after losing control of his motorcycle and being hit by a Ford F-650 wrecker in Flowery Branch, authorities said.

Chase Charles Mantel, 26, was driving his Harley Davidson south on McEver Road when he lost control and crossed into the northbound lane, the Hall County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. He laid the motorcycle down in the road near Oak Leaf Drive.

The driver of the wrecker, which was traveling north on McEver Road, tried to avoid the motorcycle and Mantel, but was unsuccessful, the release said. Mantel was hit, and he died just after 6:45 p.m. when authorities arrived.

No charges are expected, the sheriff’s office said.

The Georgia State Patrol is taking over the investigation, and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 678-618-1235.
