A 6-year-old boy was killed Wednesday when one of his siblings got hold of an unattended gun, police said.

The boy was found with a gunshot wound when South Fulton police responded to a home in the 2600 block of Fox Hall Lane about 6:50 p.m., police spokesman Lt. Jubal Rogers said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the siblings of the victim, ages 8 and 4, were also present during the shooting,” Rogers said Thursday in a news release. “Preliminary investigation and evidence produced thus far in the inquiry have led detectives to believe that the shooting was accidental by one of the siblings by an unattended weapon.”

The incident remains under investigation, he said. It was unknown if any adults were in the home at the time of the shooting, or if any charges would be filed.

“Our hearts cry out for the family during this difficult time,” Rogers said.
