Atlanta police charged two alleged gang members with stealing a Mercedes-Benz SUV from a softball field in northwest Atlanta on Wednesday.
Jermaine Williams, 21, and Tyrone Linsdey, 20, both of Atlanta, face multiple felonies in connection with a stolen 2016 Mercedes G35, Atlanta police said in a news release. Police added that they’re both felons.
The incident began when officers were called to the Galloway softball field, where the Mercedes’ owner reported the stolen SUV, the release said.
The owner was able to use an app to track the vehicle to Hunnicutt Street, which is about six miles away. When officers got there, they saw the SUV next to a silver Kia.
A man, who was later identified as Lindsey, got out of the Kia and went to the Mercedes, the release said. Williams and another passenger were in the Kia, and they were quickly detained. The other passenger was later released without charges, police said.
Lindsey ran away when he saw the officers, but he was eventually detained, the release said. During the arrests, officers said they recovered a key fob for the Mercedes as well as a Mustang and a Chevrolet, plus a handgun.
Both suspects were charged with felony theft by receiving. Lindsey also faces counts of obstruction, probation violation and a vehicle tag violation, while Williams was charged with fleeing police, driving without a valid license, misdemeanor theft and two firearm-related offenses.
They were booked into the Fulton County Jail, where they remain without bond.
