A Marietta mother is in jail after officers accused her of beating her 4-year-old son with a belt.

Andrea Mendez was arrested Saturday on a charge of child cruelty, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant said that Mendez hit her son with a leather belt and left three semi-circle bruises on his legs and thighs, including one scabbed bruise that had broken skin.

Medical staff at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite treated the boy Oct. 18.

Mendez remains in jail on a bond of $27,720, according to jail records.
