An investigation that began at the beginning of 2019 led to the arrest of a Marietta man this week on seven drug-related felonies.

Marietta police and the Bartow County Drug Task Force had been investigating 33-year-old Deontrez Lashad Smart since January 2019, leading to his arrest Wednesday, police said in a news release.

Investigators executed a search warrant at his home off Gresham Avenue and discovered pounds of various drugs and two stolen handguns, police said.

About 2½ pounds of marijuana, 104 oxycodone pills, seven ecstasy pills, nearly four ounces of crack cocaine, about an ounce of heroin and the handguns were seized. In addition, police found materials to “cook, cut, package and distribute” crack cocaine and heroin, the release said.

Smart was arrested on counts of trafficking heroin, trafficking cocaine, possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of ecstasy with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, theft by receiving and a firearm possession charge, police said.

He remains in the Cobb County jail without bond, according to jail records.
