An Alabama man, who was charged with murder in the 2014 death of his daughter's sexual abuser, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison, according to multiple reports.

The 43-year-old man, of Cullman, pleaded guilty Monday to murder in the June 2014 death of Raymond Early Brooks, The Cullman Times reported. Brooks also pleaded guilty to attempted murder for shooting into the Berlin Plaza Quick Stop, according to the Cullman Sense.

The Cox Media Group National Content Desk does not typically name victims of sexual assault and is not using the father's name to protect his daughter's identity.

Brooks was a convicted sex offender. In 2002, he pleaded guilty to abusing the convicted man's young daughter, The Associated Press reported. Brooks served 27 months of his five-year sentence and paid restitution, the wire service reported.

The convicted man shot into a Berlin convenience store in June 2014 in an attempt to injure a man who was dating his stepdaughter, according to The AP.

"After the would-be victim was able to elude the shooter, the suspect then drove off and went to the residence of Raymond Earl Brooks," where he killed him, then-Cullman County Sheriff Mike Rainey told the Cullman Sense in 2014.

The convicted man was sentenced to 40 years for killing Brooks and 20 years for shooting into the Berlin Plaza Quick Stop, the Sense reported.
