A man accused of shooting and killing a mother of three was sentenced to life in prison plus 15 years, officials said Tuesday.

Deunta Grier, 26, was sentenced to prison for murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime and cruelty to children by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Ural Glanville.

Grier was accused of killing his girlfriend, 24-year-old Tiffany Bailey, last fall.

According to a news release by the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, police were called to an apartment in Southwest Atlanta on Nov. 7, 2015, where they found Bailey with a gunshot wound to her left eye. Grier and Bailey’s three children were in the apartment at the time, the release said.

Grier told police that Bailey was shot during a home invasion, the release said. According to police, Grier admitted that he sold marijuana and said that was the motive for the alleged robbery.

Bailey died two days later.

On Nov. 17, Grier confessed to Bailey's murder. Grier went to the Workhouse of Faith Missionary Baptist Church that morning, where Bailey's funeral was being held.

Authorities said Grier told an off-duty officer attending the funeral that he wanted to turn himself in. The officer flagged down a passing officer and asked him to escort Grier to the police department, officials said.

Grier’s role in Bailey’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, the release said.

“A friend of the defendant informed police that Grier confessed to killing Bailey,” according to the release. “That confession was attested by (Bailey’s) 6-year-old daughter, who shared with police that mommy and daddy were fighting when daddy grabbed his gun and shot mommy.”
