A 52-year-old man watching television inside his College Park apartment was killed by a stray bullet that hit him in the head, police said Friday.

Investigators believe Robert Moore was in his bedroom when he was killed during a shootout in the parking lot of the Roosevelt Highway complex, according to Master Sgt. Jeff Hightower with College Park police.

Family members told Channel 2 Action News that during the gunfire, Moore yelled at them to get down, but a bullet struck him in the head.

One man was in arrested on a weapon charge, Hightower said. Felerix Cofer, 44, lives in the same building where Moore lived and is believed to have been involved with the shooting, according to police. Officers were called to the complex shortly before midnight.

Police believe Cofer was upset about people leaning on his car during a basketball game in the parking lot, according to Channel 2. Authorities believe he got into a shootout with three or four people, and they are looking for additional suspects.

“We know there were several shots fired,” Lt. Reed Pollard told Channel 2. “We had about 15 casings in the parking lot. So we believe that one of the stray shots hit (Moore) and killed him.”

Two cars with bullet holes were found in the parking lot, police said. Detectives were interviewing witnesses and a person of interest Friday afternoon.

Moore’s family is grieving.

“He didn’t deserve this,” his sister Angie Smith told Channel 2. “I just asked for them to please turn yourself in. He didn’t deserve this at all.”
