A man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in a home invasion in which he was shot multiple times by a resident.
Darius Rashun Campbell was found guilty of home invasion, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon in connection with the 2017 incident in Douglas County.
He was sentenced to life without parole plus five years.
Authorities said Campbell knocked on the door of a home in the 8300 block of Hollis Street in Douglasville about 10:30 a.m. Nov. 30. Three people lived there at the time.
“He forcibly entered the home with a rifle and yelled ‘you know what this is,’” Douglas County District Attorney Ryan Leonard said.
Campbell then raised a rifle and pointed it at the residents.
Demarcus Almond, who lived in the home, shot Campbell eight times. Danielle Smith, another resident, was grazed in the shooting.

Campbell, who had multiple gunshot wounds, ran away.
A person who lived nearby called 911 and said a man was walking around the neighborhood with a gunshot wound. Campbell was found shortly after.
“Surveillance video showed the defendant walking up to the home armed with a rifle under a jacket and then fleeing the scene and discarding the rifle after being shot,” Leonard said.
He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital and arrested after he recovered.
Leonard said during the trial that evidence connected Campbell to a separate home invasion 17 days prior to the one in which he was convicted.
