Police are investigating a shooting at a central DeKalb County motel that was the site of at least three shootings last year.

Officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds at the Economy Hotel about 11:15 p.m. Thursday, according to a DeKalb police spokeswoman. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition but is expected to survive.

“No suspects have been arrested and the investigation is ongoing,” spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said in an email.

Shootings were reported in November and April of last year at the same motel, which is located off Glenwood Road just outside the Perimeter. Only one was deadly.

According to police, a man in his 30s was shot Nov. 19 when he answered a knock at the door and someone opened fire. He quickly closed the door but the gunman shot through it, hitting the man multiple times, AJC.com previously reported.

He was expected to survive.

On April 27, the GBI investigated an officer-involved shooting at the motel. DeKalb police were working security when a vehicle with an “obviously counterfeit” license plate sped through the parking lot, according to the state agency. Officials said the vehicle’s driver shot at the officers when they tried to stop him.

The officers returned fire and hit the driver, identified as Jakil Kquame Gray, 25, of Atlanta. He was treated for his injuries and is facing multiple charges related to the incident, court records show. No officers were injured during the shootout, according to the GBI.

Two weeks prior, DeKalb police investigated a homicide at the motel. Christopher Sellers, 41, was arrested last month in connection with the April 2 shooting of Thedarious Mitchell. Sellers is being held in the DeKalb County jail on charges of murder and probation violation.
