Two people, including an innocent bystander, were shot Thursday night when an argument outside a southwest Atlanta convenience store escalated to gunfire.

A 29-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman are being treated at Grady Memorial Hospital after the shooting at the 4 Brothers Convenience Store on the corner of Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard and Parsons Street, according to Atlanta police. The man was found with gunshot wounds to the back and leg when officers responded to the store about 11:40 p.m.

The woman, who was shot in the leg, was taken to the hospital before authorities arrived. Investigators believe she was caught in the crossfire when someone started shooting in the parking lot.

A group of men were talking in front of the building, and two got into an argument, according to police. One of the men pulled out a gun and chased down the other, who was unarmed, investigators at the scene told Channel 2 Action News.

The shooter continued firing as he ran to the side of the building and then ran away, the news station reported.

The male victim was rushed into surgery and was listed in critical condition Friday morning. He was identified by police as Joshua Norman.

The woman is stable, police spokeswoman Marla Jean Rooker said.

“Narcotics were recovered in the male victim’s car and he will face multiple drug-related charges,” Rooker said. “Investigators are continuing to gather information on the suspect.”

Norman is facing charges of possession of cocaine, heroin, MDMA, Xanax and an amphetamine with intent to distribute, as well as possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.
