A Clayton County judge denied bond on Friday for a man arrested in connection with the brutal stabbing of his wife.

Jermaine Jones, 30, came before the judge Friday morning for his first appearance, court records show. He will remain in jail until a preliminary hearing in October, when his bond is expected to be reconsidered.

Jones is facing a charge of murder in the death of his wife, who was found stabbed multiple times Wednesday night at the home they shared on Springview Drive near Forest Park, according to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman, who has not been identified by authorities, was found with “her neck cut so severely that her head was nearly severed,” the sheriff’s office said Thursday in a statement.

Jones called 911 from a location on Holiday Boulevard and “allegedly said something to the effect that he had just committed a heinous crime,” according to the agency.

A witness to the woman’s death tried to stop Jones, sheriff’s officials said, but ended up fleeing for his life. When officers responded to the Holiday Boulevard location, Jones was arrested without incident, his clothes bloodied.

Clayton County police said Friday no other details were being released.

Jones is next scheduled to appear in court Oct. 11.
