Seven people were shot late Thursday after someone opened fire on a southwest Atlanta home, police said.
A man who lived at the Osborne Street home was killed, and five men and one woman were injured, Atlanta police Lt. Ricardo Vazquez told Channel 2 Action News. Their injuries were not life-threatening, he said. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office identified the victim as Kelvin B. Sutton, 55, of Atlanta.
Vazquez said two groups decided to settle their differences with guns after an ongoing dispute.
Someone fired shots at a group of people on Birch Street. In retaliation, several people from Birch Street opened fire on the home on Osborne Street, police said.
Paul Sutton, the victim’s cousin, said the gunmen targeted the wrong home. Any neighborhood feud didn't involve his family, he said.
“It had nothing to do with us,” Sutton said.
Before Thursday’s shooting, the house was a refuge.
“Whenever you really don’t got nowhere to go,” Sutton said, “this is where you always can come.”
He said he was playing dominoes with relatives when the hail of gunfire rang out at the home.
“I lost a cousin,” he said.
Police have made no arrests in the case.
