A 17-year-old student was arrested Tuesday at a Gwinnett County high school after he was found with a gun and THC vaping oil, officials said.

The teenager was trying to sell the vaping liquid to another student at Peachtree Ridge High School, according to a letter sent to parents. According to an incident report obtained by Channel 2 Action News, he also had a .32 caliber handgun and three bullets on him. It’s unclear whether the gun was loaded.

Gwinnett County Public Schools identified the student as Kevin Miguel Solano-Cruz, who faces weapon and drug possession charges, jail records show. He was granted a $24,100 bond, but remained in custody as of Wednesday afternoon.

In the letter, Principal Jadd Jarusinski said the student will face disciplinary action through the school in addition to the felony charges.

“I want to reassure you that in situations like this a student does not typically return to school,” Jarusinski continued in the letter. “While I hate that this situation occurred, the quick and efficient handling of it speaks to the many steps we take to keep our school safe.”

Peachtree Ridge has two school resource officers. Jarusinski added that staff members monitor the restrooms.

“With that in mind, know that weapons have no place on our campus and we are committed to providing our students with a safe, disruption-free teaching and learning environment. Thank you for your continued support,” the letter concluded.
