A former Hall County high school teacher was arrested Tuesday after he was accused of sending inappropriate texts to a 16-year-old student.
Taylor James Guthrie, 26, of Murrayville, resigned from his position at Chestatee High School on March 18, five days after Hall County Schools and the Hall County Sheriff’s Office began their initial investigation.

Guthrie had been a math teacher at Chestatee High since August 2016. In his school bio, which has since been removed from the Gainesville school's website, Guthrie was listed as the ninth-grade basketball coach, assistant track coach and assistant volleyball coach. He attended Lumpkin County High School before playing basketball at the University of North Georgia.
Sheriff’s investigators were asked to look into “unlawful/inappropriate texts” between Guthrie and a 16-year-old girl, who was one of his students at the time, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said.
A warrant was issued for Guthrie’s arrest on April 22 on a misdemeanor charge of electronically furnishing obscene material to a minor. He turned himself in at the Hall County Jail on Tuesday afternoon and was released on bond.
The case remains under investigation.
At the time of his resignation, the Hall County School District said in a statement officials were cooperating with law enforcement and declined to comment further as it was a personnel matter. A spokesman said Wednesday the school district had nothing to add to its previous statement.
