After nearly three years, authorities identified the human remains found in a suitcase along I-985 in Gwinnett County.
Using dental and medical records, the remains were identified as Jessica Manchini, who was 29 years old at the time of the discovery, Gwinnett police said in a Friday news release.

She was originally from Pennsylvania but spent the last few years of her life in Gwinnett, the release said.
The remains were found just north of Buford Drive on July 29, 2016, AJC.com previously reported. During the investigation, police released a sketch in an attempt to identify the remains, saying they belonged to a woman in her 20s.

A tag from the suitcase had faded blue ink that was no longer visible, and lighting tests in 2016 were unsuccessful at identifying what was written, the release said. However, new technology allowed the writing to be deciphered, revealing a partial name and address.
That led them to Manchini, who had been reported missing by her mother in December 2014.

The cause and manner of her death remain under investigation. Based on the decomposition of the remains, authorities previously said she likely died in early 2016.
