A man was found dead when SWAT officers forced their way inside a DeKalb County condominium Sunday night.
The victim, identified by police on Tuesday as 36-year-old Brandon McCrary, was the only person found inside the unit at the Waldrop Park condo complex, which is located off Waldrop Road south of Flat Shoals Parkway. Investigators think he lived there, according to DeKalb police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer.
Officers took every precaution after a woman said she saw two men go into McCrary’s condo and not come out. Police arrived about 7:30 p.m. and did not enter the unit until about two hours later, Channel 2 Action News reported.
“We were believing that two suspects possibly were still inside the location armed, therefore we activated the SWAT team,” Capt. R.C. Hughes told the news station from the scene.

The woman told officers she was leaving a friend’s home when she was approached by the two men. They pointed a handgun at her and “told her to be quiet and run away,” according to a police report.
She ran to the back of the building, called 911 and waited for officers to arrive. While she was hiding, she told police she heard two to three gunshots. Another neighbor also reported hearing multiple shots, a responding officer said in the report.
McCrary was shot multiple times, Spencer said Tuesday.
While the SWAT team was on scene, the entrance to the complex was blocked and residents were told to shelter in place. Police wrapped up their investigation about 4:30 a.m. Monday, according to Channel 2.
Spencer said detectives believe the home was targeted for “specific risky behaviors” related to drug activity.
McCrary had a doorbell camera, he said, but investigators have not confirmed if it recorded the suspected shooters and have not released any suspect information.
