A child riding a scooter was hit by a car in DeKalb County and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, police confirmed.

The incident happened about 6:20 p.m. Thursday on Rockbridge Road near Rays Road, DeKalb County police Sgt. J.D. Spencer told AJC.com. No details on the collision were provided.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene until police arrived. An investigation is ongoing.

This incident comes about two weeks after Atlanta had its first deadly e-scooter incident. Eric Amis Jr., 20, of Atlanta, was hit and killed by a SUV while riding a Lime electric scooter on West Lake Avenue.

The driver in that incident also stayed at the scene, and investigators have not determined whether charges will be filed.
