Authorities are investigating after a man and his niece were discovered dead Wednesday morning inside an Eatonton home.

The bodies were found about 9:30 a.m. at a home along Sparta Highway, the GBI said.

Macon-based news station WGXA-TV identified the two as Alton Dewey Chalker, 62, and Katie Elizabeth Chalker, 25, and said their bodies were discovered by a friend.

Eatonton police Chief Kent Lawrence told the news station Katie Chalker lived across the street from Alton Chalker. Her home is also being investigated, authorities said.

Police have not said how the two died or whether any suspects are sought in the case.

The GBI is assisting Eatonton police in the investigation, authorities said.
