2 alleged armed robbers ID’d after police chase, crash in downtown Atlanta

Two armed robberies led to a short police chase that ended with a crash and two arrests in downtown Atlanta on Monday afternoon, police said.

Officers responded to a call of two armed robbers at the Verizon Wireless store at 2286 Peachtree Road around 4 p.m., Atlanta police said. The suspects were identified as Davon Jordan Daniels, 23, and a 14-year-old boy. Unless minors are charged as adults, it’s AJC.com’s policy not to identify them.

The two suspects left the location in a gray Audi, which officers spotted. Atlanta police spokeswoman Stephanie Brown told AJC.com the Audi was later tied to another Verizon Wireless robbery at 2625 Piedmont Road about 3:30 p.m. The two stores are about two miles apart.

Police chased the car until it crashed near 14th Street and the Downtown Connector. Multiple vehicles were damaged by the suspects fleeing officers, police said.

Both Daniels and the teenager were taken into custody in the 200 block of 14th street, with one being taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said. It’s unclear which suspect was taken to the hospital.

Both face counts of armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault with intent to rob and theft by receiving, police said.

The southbound ramp to 14th Street from the Connector was shut down temporarily as a result of the crash. The ramp reopened just before 5:45 p.m.

An investigation is ongoing.
