An inmate who escaped from the Monroe County jail in Middle Georgia was recaptured Thursday, a sheriff’s spokesman said.

Matthew Pippin “is in custody, and has been charged with escape,” Monroe County sheriff’s Sgt. Lawson Bittick said. No other details were released.

Before he was captured, Pippin was last seen in the area of Ensign Road in Forsyth, Bittick said.

Pippin was in custody on a probation violation of a nonviolent drug offense.
