A Hall County high school teacher resigned Monday amid an investigation into alleged inappropriate electronic communication with a student, authorities said.

Taylor Guthrie, who was a math teacher at Chestatee High School since August 2016, resigned after being accused of the inappropriate conduct, the Hall County School District said in a statement.

Sheriff’s office spokesman Derrick Booth confirmed to Channel 2 Action News that the investigation into Guthrie’s conduct is ongoing.

Guthrie had been suspended from all duties Wednesday when the initial phase of the investigation began, the district’s statement said.

According to the school's website, he was the ninth grade basketball coach, assistant track coach and assistant volleyball coach. He also attended Lumpkin County High School before playing basketball at the University of North Georgia.

“The Hall County School District will continue cooperating with law enforcement during the course of this ongoing investigation,” the statement said. “Since this is a personnel matter, the district will have no further comment at this time.”

No other details have been released.
