A motorcyclist was killed in a crash after speeding along I-85 North with another vehicle, police said.

About 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Atlanta police responded to the accident near Buford Highway and found Richard Lara, 21, of Lilburn, dead, Sgt. John Chafee said in a statement.

“The preliminary investigation indicates the motorcycle was traveling with several cars,” he said. “At some point the motorcycle and one of the cars took off at a high rate of speed.”

That’s when the car hit the motorcycle, knocking Lara to the roadway.

The other driver remained on the scene.

“At this time it is not clear why the car struck the motorcycle,” Chafee said. “The investigation continues and charges are pending.”
