A Henry County middle school was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning after authorities discovered that a student had a gun, school officials said.

District spokesman JD Hardin told Channel 2 Action News that Luella Middle School was locked down after another student reported the firearm to administrators.

The student, who was not named, had the gun when he was searched, Hardin said. Authorities did not say whether it was loaded at the time.

The student, who faces disciplinary action, is charged with disrupting the school day and having a gun on campus.

According to Hardin, no threats were made against the school or any students. The lockdown was lifted at 12:10 p.m.
