A car crash in Covington County, Ala., resulted in the death of an 8-year-old boy from Dallas on Monday afternoon, police said.

The child was a passenger in a Nissan Pathfinder, which was involved in a collision on Hwy. 55 near the 40-mile marker.

Joseph Cameron Worley, 18, of Red Level, Ala., was driving his Chevrolet Camaro north when he entered into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with the Pathfinder, according to Alabama Highway Patrol.

Both Worley and the boy died at the scene as a result of their injuries. Other passengers, including 35-year-old Landie Romulus, another adult, a 3-year-old and an 11-year old, were flown to area hospitals.

Romulus, who was a passenger in the Pathfinder, later died at the hospital, and the conditions for the other three have not been released.

Police say speed is believed to be a factor in the crash.

No other details were released, but Alabama troopers continue to investigate.
