A northeast Georgia college student accidentally shot and killed himself while trying to remove a magazine from his pistol, authorities said.

On Thursday afternoon, first responders in Hart County went to a home off Cokesbury Highway and found the body of 18-year-old Hunter Grizzell, Coroner Mike Adams told AJC.com.

A juvenile who witnessed the incident told authorities that Grizzell could not get the magazine out of the pistol, and it fired as he was trying to dislodge it, Adams said. Grizzell died at the scene from a wound to the head.

The GBI crime lab will perform the autopsy.

Grizzell was an Athens Technical College student from Royston, according to his public Facebook page.

On the same day, a Jones County man was accidentally shot and killed by his 2-year-old, AJC.com reported. The toddler found the gun and shot the 28-year-old man in the back, according to the county’s sheriff.
