The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in East Dublin that led to a 21-year-old man being taken into custody.

Just before 4:45 p.m. Thursday, an East Dublin police officer was sent to break up a fight at Buckeye Park, the GBI said in a news release. When the officer arrived, he saw a person shooting a gun toward the park.

At the same time, the officer heard gunshots being fired from the park, and investigators believe the two individuals were shooting at each other. At some point, the officer discharged his weapon at the person who was shooting toward the park, the GBI said.

No one was injured as a result of the officer firing his weapon, the GBI said. It’s unclear whether anyone was injured as a result of the other gunfire, but the officer was not hurt.

The incident led to 21-year-old Gregory Cuyler being taken into custody, and charges are pending. The specific charges were not provided, but he remains in the Laurens County jail.

Agents are trying to find the other individual involved in the shootout, and anyone with information is asked to contact the GBI at 478-374-6988 or 478-272-6883.

East Dublin police asked the GBI to investigate the officer-involved shooting and the shootout between the two individuals. It is the 36th officer-involved shooting the GBI has opened in 2020.

It is also the sixth officer-involved shooting investigation the GBI has opened within the past week.
