Gainesville man arrested after live-in girlfriend found dead

A Gainesville man was arrested in connection with the death of his live-in girlfriend, a Hall County sheriff’s spokeswoman said Monday.

Donnie Jackson Irvin, 53, is being held in the Hall County Jail on a murder charge.

Deputies, called to an alleged domestic assault at 8:30 p.m. Friday, arrived to find Mary Ward, 42, dead inside a home on Dean Street, Hall County sheriff’s Deputy Nicole Bailes said.

Ward’s body was scheduled to be taken to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, where an autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death.

No other details were released.
