A woman suspected of driving under the influence ended up in jail Saturday morning after crashing into an Atlanta police car with an officer inside, authorities said.

Candyce Howell, 27, faces charges of reckless driving, DUI and failure to maintain lane after running into the officer’s cruiser on Joseph E. Lowery Boulevard, Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee said.

Channel 2 Action News reported that Howell is a Clayton County detention officer. Her status with the sheriff’s office was not available.

The officer was parked on a median while completing paperwork at Sells Avenue about 2 a.m. when Howell’s Chrysler 300 drove up on the curb and struck the front of his car, police said.

The officer complained of minor pain but declined medical treatment at the scene.

The woman was arrested after police determined she was driving under the influence of alcohol, Chafee said.

Her bond was set at $10,000, Channel 2 reported.
