A DUI suspect involved in a single-vehicle crash that left his passenger dead Sunday morning has been released from the hospital and booked into jail, authorities said.
Jommar Gabriel Lopez, 20, was driving north on Thompson Bridge Road near Gainesville when he lost control of a Toyota Corolla, according to police. The car spun out, vaulted off the road and slid down an embankment, hitting several trees along the way, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derreck Booth said.
Lopez’s passenger, 20-year-old Grechelle Enid Cuevas Lopez, also of Gainesville, was thrown from the vehicle and killed.

Lopez was injured in the crash. He was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center and released Thursday into police custody. He was still wearing a neck brace in his booking photo.
He faces nine charges in connection with the fatal wreck, including first-degree homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence, speeding, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, driving on the wrong side of the roadway, open container, underage consumption of alcohol, and operating a vehicle with an expired learner’s permit, deputies said.
Lopez remains held at the Hall County Jail without bond, online records show.
