Police are searching for the driver that caused a fiery hit-and-run crash on Christmas Eve in Henry County.

The wreck happened on Hudson Bridge Road near a Walmart Shopping Center around 2 p.m., and three damaged vehicles were left in the wake of the fleeing hit-and-run driver, Henry County police told Channel 2 Action News.

Two people in the wrecked vehicles had to climb through their cars’ windows to escape the blaze, Channel 2 reported.

Donna, who asked the news station to only use her first name, was pinned in her car after the chain-reaction of wrecks started. She said she was stopped at a red light when one of the cars that was hit suddenly struck her vehicle before catching on fire.

“Within a couple minutes, it was an inferno,” Donna said. “My biggest fear (was) that the car was gonna explode, and I was pinned in my car.”

Channel 2 obtained a witness’s cellphone video that showed the fiery aftermath, but the hit-and-run driver had driven away before the witness pressed record.

Donna told the news station she climbed across her car’s center console and escaped through the passenger side of her vehicle.

She saw a group of teenagers in a badly damaged white pickup truck drive away from the scene, and witnesses believe that vehicle caused the accident. No one involved was seriously injured.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Henry County police at 770-288-8200.
