A Fulton County detention officer walked out of jail Monday, but this time was different.

Normally he’s leaving his job, but this time he was leaving on a $12,000 bond.

Adonis Lovejoy, who has worked at the jail since May, faces nine charges after allegedly smuggling drugs into the facility for cash, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Channel 2 talked to the Fairburn man before he bonded out, and he said, “What I did was wrong.”

Col. Mark Adger told the news station that Lovejoy is accused of smuggling five percocet pills, five Xanax pills, marijuana, lighters and tobacco into the jail Sunday morning.

Only Channel 2's Mark Winne??went into the former officer's??cell??to get answers.

“We have him on video with the container of drugs,” Adger said. “We believe he was paid about $500 for this last delivery.”

Adger said they’ve been investigating Lovejoy’s conduct for the past two weeks after intercepting a note in an inmate’s cell, Channel 2 reported. After searching the inmate, they allegedly found methamphetamine, marijuana and two cellphones.

The FBI has been called in to open a federal investigation into Lovejoy, and Adger told the news station he believes a contract employee who works at the jail is also involved in addition to others outside the jail.

After the contraband was found, searches of every floor of the jail by dogs were conducted, the news station reported.

Lovejoy faces charges of violation of oath, bribery, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, giving prohibited items to inmates and various other drug possession charges, Fulton County Jail records show.
