One person was detained by police Saturday evening after a man was shot in the chest and killed in southwest Atlanta, officials said.

Tavoris Gates, 32, was found shot to death at a location on Peyton Place, according to department spokesman Officer Anthony Grant.

Police were sent to the location about 7 p.m., Grant said.

There, they discovered Gates’ body, he said.

Investigators detained a man at the scene, but it is not clear if he was charged in connection with the shooting. An investigation is ongoing.
