A couple in their 80s were assaulted Thursday afternoon when someone broke into their DeKalb County home, authorities said.

The residents were not injured in the incident, which happened about 12:45 p.m. at a home on Mercer Road, according to police. They were not identified.

“The victims advised that the suspect forced his way into the location and assaulted them,” DeKalb County police spokesman Sgt. J.D. Spencer said. “(He) took an unknown amount of change before fleeing the residence.”

It is unclear if the home was targeted.

No suspects were in custody Friday morning. An investigation is ongoing.
