A DeKalb County McDonald’s was forced to close temporarily after someone tossed a smoke grenade through a drive-thru window, police said.
The incident began Monday night when a customer at the location in the 2000 block of North Druid Hills Road placed an order.
According to McDonald’s, the customer paid for the order, threw the grenade inside the restaurant and sped off in a dark SUV.
“The device was a commercially manufactured device produced to make smoke, Brookhaven police Maj. Brandon Gurley said. “It is manufactured and sold for use on a paintball field as part of a paintball game or activity.”
No injuries were reported in the incident.
Investigators are looking at surveillance video to identify the vehicle and person who threw the device.
The restaurant has reopened.
This is the second recent incident at a metro Atlanta McDonald’s.
Early Tuesday, as SWAT standoff at a Gwinnett County McDonald’s approached the fourth hour, authorities deployed gas to get a barricaded man to surrender. The man destroyed the bathroom and pulled pipes out of the wall, police say.
