1 critical after being shot near Pappadeaux restaurant

After being shot multiple times, a man ran through the Pappadeaux restaurant in Norcross and asked for help before he collapsed, a witness said.

The man, whose name was not released, was transported to the hospital in critical condition after being shot in the parking lot of the restaurant, located near the intersection of I-85 and Jimmy Carter Boulevard. He is expected to survive, police said this evening.

Investigators believe an altercation between people in different vehicles led to the shooting.

“Two cars pulled into the parking lot and gunfire was exchanged,” Norcross police Chief Warren Summers told Channel 2 Action News.

At least one victim was shot multiple times, Summers said. Both vehicles then left the area, according to police.

The two vehicles are believed to be a black BMW and a silver Ford Explorer, police said after reviewing surveillance camera footage. A third vehicle was located in the restaurant parking lot, but the driver allegedly fled, police said.

Michelle Morris said she drove to the restaurant after a frantic call from her daughter, who works there.

“She said he grabbed her arm and said, ‘Help me, help me,’” Morris told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The GBI and Gwinnett County police were assisting Norcross officers with the investigation.
