A father was killed in front of two of his children during a custody exchange with the mother, DeKalb County police said Monday.
Daniel Wise, 31, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon on Evans Mill Road near Lithonia, DeKalb police Lt. Lonzy Robertson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Wise’s friend, 29-year-old Robbie Johnson, was also injured and remains in stable condition.
Authorities are searching for Charvez Ryals, the mother’s boyfriend, who they say drove to the location, saw the men in a car and fired, The AJC previously reported. He faces murder charges and three counts of aggravated assault.
Wise, a father of three, had his 4-year-old son and 7-year-old daughter with him at the time, Robertson said. He also has a 9-year-old son.
"Daniel was loved by everyone and this tragic event has left the children and family devastated," Wise's family said in a statement on a GoFundMe page created to raise money for funeral costs.
No other details were released.
