A man accused of breaking another man’s nose and knocking out two of his teeth in an Athens bar last year was arrested last week on a felony charge, authorities said.
Ryan Scott Andrews, 21, of Savannah, faces an aggravated battery charge in connection with the Dec. 29 brawl in Cloud Bar on Clayton Street in downtown Athens, according to Clarke County jail records. He was arrested Friday.
Athens police officers responded to the assault about 1 a.m., according to an incident report obtained by AJC.com. Andrews allegedly got upset after seeing the 21-year-old victim speaking with his ex-girlfriend, with whom he hoped to “rekindle a relationship.”
The victim, who is from Athens, was bleeding profusely when police arrived, but Andrews had already left the bar, the report said. The bar manager told officers that he punched Andrews on the victim’s behalf, since the victim was in “no position to defend himself.”
This isn’t the first brawl to pop up inside this bar, which is located a block away from the University of Georgia campus. Two Georgia football players were charged with disorderly conduct in March 2019 after allegedly fighting bar employees.

Andrews was released from jail on a $3,500 bond about an hour after turning himself in last week, according to jail records.
