A Middle Georgia man is accused of a violent crime spree Wednesday that began with murdering his mother and stepfather before ending with his arrest in a Walgreens, police said.
Anthony D. Shoffner, 25, was charged in the deaths of Rebecca Griffin, 46, and Kenneth Griffin, 42, according to Perry police. He faces two counts of murder and one count of aggravated assault.
Police responded to an apartment at 2350 South Houston Lake Road about 11:30 a.m. for a wellness check after someone living there did not report to work, police said in a news release.
Officers discovered a grisly sight: two bodies.
The GBI was called in to assist in the investigation, and the autopsy found that Rebecca and Kenneth Griffin’s deaths were homicides, the release said.
Shoffner, who lived in the apartment, quickly became a suspect in the case, but he’s accused of committing another crime before authorities could find him.
Just before 4:30 p.m., officers were called to the 700 block of Mason Terrace after a man was attacked in a parking lot by a man wielding a baseball bat, the release said. Police said Shoffner was the suspect, but he had already left the scene when officers arrived.
Shortly after, police were called to a nearby Walgreens after a man who matched Shoffner’s description was causing a disturbance inside the store, the release said.
This time, Shoffner was still at the scene when police arrived, the release said. He was promptly taken into custody.
He was booked into the Houston County jail, where he remains without bond. Police said more charges are possible as the investigation continues.
