A Villa Rica man faces eight felonies after a road-rage incident Wednesday ended with a 15-year-old nearly being shot, authorities said.
Undra Leonard Taylor, 30, fired six shots at a truck that had five occupants, including three juveniles, the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office said. He faces five counts of aggravated assault and three child cruelty charges, jail records show.
The incident took place as the truck and Taylor’s Ford Fusion were both traveling northbound on Ga. 61, the sheriff’s office said in a news release. The truck driver, a 36-year-old man, told deputies he was trying to change lanes to turn onto Flat Rock Road.
The man said Taylor kept speeding up to prevent him from changing lanes while also “shooting him birds.” The truck driver was eventually able to make that lane change, but Taylor is accused of getting next to the truck and firing six shots at the vehicle.
The truck, which was pulling a trailer, was hit once in the back door on the driver’s side, the release said. Deputies said the bullet nearly struck a 15-year-old in the leg. A 4-month-old was also in the truck.
No one was injured, and both Taylor and the truck driver called 911.
Taylor told deputies that he fired his weapon because the truck driver brandished his own gun, but Taylor was not able to describe what the firearm looked like, the release said. Deputies searched the truck and did not find a gun.
A witness also backed up the truck driver’s version of events, saying he saw the Fusion was not allowing the truck to change lanes, the release said. The witness also said he saw smoke and glass coming from the Fusion when the shots were being fired.
Taylor was taken to the Carroll County Jail, where he remained Thursday without bond, according to jail records.
