A day after prompting an Amber Alert, a DeKalb County man is in custody, authorities said.

Emmanuel Elijah Singleton, 26, of Scottdale, was arrested Friday after being found in a stolen vehicle in Lithonia, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office.

This comes a day after he was accused of stabbing his ex-girlfriend and kidnapping their 5-month-old son, prompting the emergency alert, AJC.com previously reported. The child was found safe with a family member in Conyers a few hours later.

About 3:45 p.m. Thursday, Singleton stabbed the woman, Morgan Alexander Byrd-Holmes, several times at a Brockett Road apartment, leading to her hospitalization, the sheriff’s office said. Her condition has not been released.

Singleton is then accused of taking the woman’s Volkswagen Jetta and the child during his getaway. The sheriff’s office did not say whether the stolen vehicle found in Lithonia was the Jetta.

When deputies first approached Singleton, he allegedly fled. When authorities chased him down, he had suffered “apparent self-inflicted wounds,” leading to him being transported to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said.

When medically cleared, he will be moved into the county jail to face counts of aggravated assault, kidnapping and motor vehicle theft.
