A Cumming woman has been arrested after she allegedly tried to obtain a baby through Craigslist for her 14-year-old daughter.

The ad placed by Elaine Williams, 47, said an interested party could drop an unwanted infant into a “baby box,” said Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Epifanio Rodriguez. He wasn’t sure how long the ad had appeared on the website.

Rodriguez said Williams “was looking for parents who simply wanted to get rid of their baby.” He said no price was listed in the ad.

Several people, however, offered to sell their baby to Williams, Rodriguez said. He said the matter was still being investigated.

Williams said her daughter wanted a baby and that she would get one with or without her mother’s help, so she tried to help her get one, Rodriguez said.

The “drop box” supposedly was at Williams’ residence, but it was unclear if there was an actual box, Rodriguez said.

Williams was charged with domestic-unlawful advertisement/inducement for adoption of children. She was still in jail as of Monday with her bond set at $5,610.

Her daughter is facing the same charge but was not taken into custody, Rodriguez said.
