A college football player from metro Atlanta was injured in a weekend shooting in West Virginia.

Dante James Walker, a Marshall University defensive lineman from Riverdale, was shot while walking with a friend about 10 p.m. Saturday, according to a Huntington,  West Virginia, police report obtained by AJC.com.

A bullet hit the recent Cedar Grove High School graduate in his back, and he checked himself into a hospital, Huntington police Chief Hank Dial said.

In a statement, university athletics spokesman Jason Corriher said Walker, 19, is expected “to make a full recovery.” He is out of the hospital.

No arrests have been made in the case, Dial said. Police, who were notified of the incident when Walker checked into the hospital, are still investigating.

Walker signed with Marshall in February. He is taking summer courses at the university.
