A police SWAT situation in a Cobb County neighborhood, where a woman was held hostage for hours, ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon, police said.

A man, identified as Frank Malone, 43, was holding Sydney Cahall, 27, in a house in the 2000 block of Arkose Drive, which is near Windy Hill and Austell roads, Cobb County police said in a news release. He’s also accused of holding Jenna Born, 38, and James Gniewkowski, 23, at gunpoint on Monday night.

Born and Gniewkowski called police Tuesday around 8:45 a.m. and said they had escaped Malone but that Cahall was still being held in the home, the release said.

Malone is a felon, Channel 2 Action News reported, and the house was a drug/alcohol halfway house operated by Marietta-based New Transitions. He had lived there since late July.

“I’ve run New Transitions for 10 years,” Director Barbara Gray told AJC.com, “and I’ve never had an incident like this. I’m shocked at the incident and glad it’s over. This is an example of what drugs do to people. We need to do more about the drug situation.”

After hours of negotiation from Cobb County Crisis Negotiation Team officers, Malone released Cahall and turned himself into SWAT officers peacefully, the release said.

Malone faces aggravated assault and false imprisonment charges, the release said. He will be booked into the Cobb County Jail.
